Lumbini Park in Hyderabad

Lumbini Park is located near Hussain Sagar on Tank Bund road, with important tourist attractions such as Birla Mandir, State Secretariat  and Necklace road in the vicinity. It was constructed in 1994 and was in news in 2007 due to the bomb attack on 25th August,2007 which claimed many lives. The park boasts of a laser auditorium, boating facilities, fun rides  and musical fountains! The auditorium has a seating capacity of around 2000 people. The park was renamed T.Anjaiah Lumbini Park in honour of late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh State. This park derives its name from 'Lumbini' which was the birth place of Prince Siddhartha who followed the spiritual path later and became Buddha - the enlightened one.

The park has a floral clock and mesmerizing waterfall. Lumbini Park had been developed by Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) as part of  Buddha Purnima Project. It is a treat to see dancing fountains synchronizing with tunes from Telugu and Bollywood film songs. The park is not very crowded on week days as most of the visitors throng this park during weekends. This public park is spread across an area of 7.5 acres.

The laser show showcases Indian Culture and history of Hyderabad city. If you take a boat ride, you can get a closer look of the monolithic Buddha statue standing on the Rock of Gibraltar in the midst of Hussain Sagar lake. The speed boat takes you around the Buddha statue. However, if you intend to get off and spend some time watching the statue from close quarters, you should go in for simple mechanised boat instead.

Lush green surroundings impart a scenic view all around. You can spend an entire day with your kids, family and friends and enjoy every minute of your stay here to the fullest. Small wave pool and toy train fill the children with enthusiasm.

The park was constructed at a cost of 2.35 crores and functions under administrative control of Government of Andhra Pradesh. Being centrally located, the park attracts many visitors and tourists throughout the year. The garden is meticulously maintained. Laser shows are held in the evenings and one should take time to witness this show. Your visit to this park will be complete only after you enjoy this 3D laser show which is commendable.
