Stadium is derived from a Greek word ' Stadion' and known to be used first around the 4th century. There are indoor and outdoor stadiums, used only for a particular event or it can be a multi-purpose stadium. Like most cities in India, Hyderabad too has a number of stadiums used for a variety of purposes other than sporting events like music shows, concerts and seminars.

One of the most important stadiums in Hyderabad is the  Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. This stadium was formerly known as Visaka International Cricket Stadium Ground. It was established in 2004 and named after Rajiv Gandhi. It is the principal cricket stadium in Hyderabad.  It has a capacity of 55,000 spectators presently and extends across 16 acres (65,000 m2) of land. It was owned by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, giving the Hyderabad Cricket Association limited control over the ground. The HCA sold this stadium to Visaka Industries, which was originally named. It has six towers and it was completed in April 7 2008. Apart from Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium  there are are other stadiums where various other sports are played. There are stadiums in Hyderabad where football, tennis and badminton are played. Tennis is an important sport played by many youngsters in Hyderabad.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium is a cricket stadium in Hyderabad. Originally known as Fateh Maidan and was renamed in 1967 after Lal Bahadur Shastri, India's former Prime Minister.

The foundation of this place was laid on August 31, 1996. The services provided in this stadium is the developed two Shuttle badminton Courts with wooden flooring, two Gym Rooms for Ladies & Gents separately and Table Tennis. Charges are different with different games.

G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium

This stadium  is an ultra modern stadium with 8 line competition synthetic athletic track and 4-lane synthetic practice track. It uses the latest high-mast lighting for day-night events and provides obstruction-free viewing for all spectators. It is a very picturesque stadium amidst breath-taking landscape. The stadium was named in the memory of G. M. C. Balayogi, an incumbent Speaker of Lok Sabha who died in an air crash.
